Our philosophy

We believe

  • All children have the right to access and explore nature

  • Play and fun are the highest forms of learning

  • All living things deserve to be treated respectfully and with awe

  • You don’t have to be a fitness buff or an avid hiker to get out and enjoy nature

  • Because 90% of brain development occurs between the ages of zero to five it’s imperative we spark joy and curiosity in our youngest learners

  • There is tremendous value in the relationship between young children and their caregivers and having shared experiences strengthens this connection

  • Family comes in all shapes and sizes- which is something to be celebrated. We support our LGBTQ families and welcome all abilities!

  • Exploring all kinds of weather awakens your connection with the outdoors

  • Being together on purpose forms community

  • Getting outside makes us better humans

  • Doing regular things outside makes them cooler

  • Early exposure to nature, music, the arts, imaginative play, and books has incredible lasting effects on children’s sense of self and their love of learning and creativity

At a very young age, Dandelion developed a profound adoration for nature while exploring her Granny’s backyard. Making mud pies, collecting flowers, chasing ladybugs, and holding garter snakes built up her fondest childhood memories. Dandelion is a Queer and neurodivergent educator who loves and appreciates all kinds of people! With 15 years of experience in early childhood, including roles as a nanny, summer camp counselor, preschool teacher, director, and public school ECE and Kindergarten teacher, she noticed a lack of infant-focused activities after her son was born. Drawing on her passion for educating young children and wanting to get outside more with her little one, she founded Little Backyard Adventures. In addition to her dedication to education, Dandelion delights in thrifting, art, house plants, getting more tattoos, coffee, and supporting local animal rescues. She resides in Englewood with her partner and son, and their three big dogs.
